Prospection in psychology

brain 2023
Created by Geoffrey Sutton & Bing AI

Prospection, also known as future mindedness, refers to our thoughts and plans for the future. Engaging in prospection helps us make decisions about a course of action as we consider likely outcomes of our decisions. Prospection also helps us consider our goals and evaluate any barriers to achieving our goals.

Thinking about the future is not always a good thing as some studies suggest a worsening in some mental health conditions. Cognitive-behavioral therapy may be of some value in addressing such negative thinking.
